The Italian Job

The Italian Job is a great film starring Michael Caine in one of his finest roles. Based mainly in Turin, Italy, the story tells of a gang of British criminals who devise the theft of gold bullion, using Mini Coopers.

Michael Caine plays the part of Charlie Croker, a cheeky criminal who has just been released from prison. Charlie is backed by Mr Bridger, a British underworld boss who is in prison. Bridger eventually becomes interested in the plan when he realises national pride is at stake.

Charlie Croker then assembles and trains his team, which includes Benny Hill playing the computer genius who disrupts the computers that control the traffic system in Italy, allowing the theft of the bullion to be executed.

The team ambush the gold and transfer it into three Mini Coopers, which then drive recklessly through a carefully planned escape route, making fools of the Italian police in the process.

When the team meet back up on their way to the alps they transfer the gold from the minis into their coach, and start their celebrations. Unfortunately, the film ends with the coach hanging half off a cliff, after being thrown out of control by the weight of the gold.
